Jude's character, Inman, is based on the real life ancestor of Cold Mountain author Charles Frazier. William Pink (Pinkney) Inman was shot for desertion after the American Civil War.

The first photo shows Jude and Nicole Kidman in character as Inman and Ada.
Photo's 2-4 are of the Cold Mountain set, and of a local man from South Carolina who appears as an extra in the film.
The fifth photo is of the crew setting up on Belle Isle
Photo 7 shows Inman's descendants in Bethel Cemetary where he is buried, pointing to the nearby mountain where he was shot dead.
Photo 8 is of James Anderson Inman, an older brother of William Pink (Pinkney) Inman. James also built the Inman Chapel in the early 1900's which is pictured in photo number 9.
